Lichfield City Academy Winners
The Academy youngsters have recently been working hard at their consistency and performances. Playing matches every 3 days is demanding but when your winning and playing well it feels alot better for everyone.
An away trip at Racing Warwick FC on a cold thursday night witnessed a hard win in difficult conditions with a 2-1 scoreline and a penalty save from Daniel. A fantastic winning volley from captain Ben. The lads showed good character to win.
Saturday witnessed the youngsters play top of the league AFC Alverchurch and with 10 men from 25 minutes in the lads frustrated the opposition and limited their chances. Two late goals witnessed disappointment for the lads but the performance and development from the team was outstanding.
Monday night the lads played 3rd place Highgate FC in the midland floodlit u18 league and the team spirit was fantastic. Utilising all 16 players everyone made a solid contribution to the 3-2 win with the last kick off the game. 1-1 at Half time from a great cross from Jordan to Blake to finish in the 6 yeard box the game was at a balance to go either way. Highgate took the lead from a mis hit freekick of which the Lichfield City Goalkeeper dropped a catch from a challenge and the goal was allowed to the disappointment of the Lichfield City lads. Daniel actually broke his arm in the challenge.
The team ralley and pushed for the equiliser and with 7 minutes to go Jordan scored to the delight of his team mates. Into injury time Benton had a shot from the edge of the box which took a deflection off Dishon into the bottom corner and the team went crazy with joy. Literally the last kick off the game.
Lichfield entertain Stafford Rangers FC on monday 27th 7-45pm kick off in the last 16 of the Cup.
