Lichfield City FC Academy-FA Youth Cup performers

Lichfield City FC Academy travelled to AFC Telford in the FA Youth Cup knowing the hosts were unbeaten this season and had won the county u18 cup last year with a strong tradition of performing at u18 level. Lichfield City as a new academy team have developed well over the past 2 years and have quality players in the present squad who are already recognised county u18 players and have the potential this year of first team football and some may have the fortune of a league trial. Lichfield were missing key performers Max & Charlie and started the game a little nervous on a great pitch and for some a first opportunity to play at a stadium.

Telford pressed as expected and in the first half had more possesion and shots at goal. Jake & Henry striking a key partnership and looking solid at the back with fellows in goal showing great maturity and saving really well when required. Callum Ben & Jake were working the best in midfield and were looking to get passes going to create for Jordy,Dishon and Lewis who all worked hard for the team. Alex and Jack were looking to create space but with talented Telford wingers it was frustrating for them to get forward. The half time talk was needing more energy and to start playing more direct into areas we could hurt Telford. Lichfield went one nil down and character was needed to build momentum. A decion was made to make 3 subs Benton,Dwaine &Wes within minutes Benton put away a penalty to make it 1-1. The game was end to end but Lichfield City looked sharper and had momentum lewis and Jordy going close with chances and a winner looked likely.

90 minutes came and as we approached extra time 2 players got bad cramp which made the balance of the team difficult for the team to organise. In a heated and tense extra time the game remained end to end. Tackles were exchanged and both teams wanted the win Lichfield City Academy had to play smart with ten men and play on the counter attack with an eye on penalties. With 2 mins to go Telford beat the offside and scored the winner.

A great football lesson, a night to build team spirit and a game to showcase u18 football. The Lichfield City Academy had a reflection after that we now go and improve our game and achieve a goals in the league format.

Well done Lichfield City Academy ballers. we love this game.
